Can you for a moment think of how our food industry would look like if we leveraged on technology? I am sure you have pictured how seamless that would make our efforts. Most of the hospitality businesses in the country are known for late services and mixed up orders. Some even suffer losses as a result of doing manual bookkeeping and cash management. In this article, I will highlight three ways the Ghanaian food businesses can leverage technology.

Three ways the food industry can leverage on technology

There are three ways that can be of massive help to the industry to ensure economical and financial boost.

The use of Artificial Intelligence(AI)

AI is the development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence. Some of these tasks are visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. So, like the Chatbots, Google Map, and Text Editor, the food industry can have AI-powered machines and apps to take over some tasks.

Some of these tasks are cash management, food ordering, delivery practices and manage inventory and receipts. Performing these tasks using an AI-powered restaurant management solution eliminates guesswork, ensures the right supply levels, and removes one more item from your to-do list.

Recently, I was sharing a meal with a colleague and I thought, what if we had an AI-powered app that could memorize the preferences of customers after they key in their details. What happens is that the system suggests numerous foods that best suits you and offer various options ranging from foods for older people to sickly people and people with allergies just by logging in your details.

The use of robots

On the other side of the world, robots have been deployed to work in restaurants. This is because they can perform multiple tasks such as washing, keeping the kitchen clean, and serving food to customers.

They also perform simple tasks like serving food and opening doors. These are called humanoid robots.

These robots have their body shapes built to resemble the human body. They are designed to function and interact as humans. They are fast, efficient, and consistent in their task. The main benefit of implementing robots in restaurants is automating repetitive tasks thus, they can do the same thing over again.

I know this development seems far fetched but it is very possible.

The use of POS

A point of sale system, or POS, is the place where your customer makes a payment for products or services at your store.

POS is one easy way to boost your business and run it efficiently. It has features that help you keep track of your inventory as well as sales transactions and cash flow.

Moreover, your business will save money by cutting down on shrinkage based on theft, waste, and misuse. And If an item is sold at an incorrect price, you will know because every item in the store or on a menu is accounted for and will be tracked based on the information you input into the system. The system can provide a detailed sales report that will help with a daily business transaction.
